"We do our bit to keep the numbers down. We brought in 90 and they've all gone," he said. "The taste is somewhere between a beautiful wild rabbit and chestnuts. It's really good meat and people forget it's squirrel. It's got a lovely nutty flavour to it. But I must say I don't shoot them myself." Those with an aversion to feasting on their furry friends will be reassured that Corrigan will not be dishing them up when he takes part in the Taste of Christmas show at Excel next month.

MasterChef winner Mat Follas out-cooked leading rivals to win further national acclaim for his new Beaminster restaurant. Critics from the respected food magazine Olive awarded The Wild Garlic near-perfect marks in the latest edition. Their overall score of 56 out of 60 beat catering names such as Richard Corrigan, whose Mayfair restaurant, in London, got 48 points, and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage Canteen in Axminster, which was given 44.

0117 9728778. Until last week, I had only ever been to The Beeches Hotel in Brislington once before and that was for a friend's wedding which was memorable for all the wrong reasons. After an afternoon of celebrations, my newly-married friend had taken too much advantage of the free bar and could hardly walk up the sweeping staircase to the bridal suite.

Next Saturday, for one lunchtime only, there's a solution. As part of the London Restaurant Festival, diners will be ferried by Routemaster bus on one of four tours, each visiting three of the capital's most acclaimed restaurants, with stops to eat a starter, main course and pudding. Tours include the "Piccadilly Odyssey" (starting at celebrity favourite Nobu) and another based in Soho (with main courses at the famous Hakkasan restaurant).

Hundreds of visitors attended the 55th renewal of the end-of-season festival in Galway. Despite the recession, there was no shortage of takers for tickets to a host of gourmet events.
